Great book

I didn't think I would like this one out of the entire brother series but I was totally wrong. Usually I feel like one person in the group is being left out when it's three instead of two or get a jealous feeling. But this was written so well that all three guys were a perfect partnership. I am so sad that there aren't any more brothers that need mates.

Hot sex, hot men, lots of action

What do you get when you take two VERY large fae warriors, a reclusive vampire, and add a pint of werewolf blood? You get one round of HOT, steamy, and passionate sex after another. Virgil by Joyee Flynn is the eighth book in the Marius Brothers series. This book isn't a standalone, and it's best to read them in sequence. The blurb covers the gist of the story, so adding anything more would be a spoiler.

This is a character and plot driven tale that concentrates on three men in particular from among the many solid, three dimensional, and fascinating primary and secondary characters who live, love, and fight in the world that Ms. Flynn has so skillfully and deftly built. Told in first person POV, it alternates between the three MCs. The plot flow is a little rough, and one thing that I dislike about this book is that if you're not paying attention, you can get lost. The storyline lays out a bit of the backstory, but it can be a little confusing trying to figure out just who all the myriad secondary characters are without a score card.

The author's writing style is humorous, simple, and concise, with a deft ability to combine all the myriad threads of so many races and species, their histories, and personalities into a seamlessly taut whole. The sex between the three MCs is HOT, HOT, HOT, and just enough kink to add spice. I do love how Ms. Flynn weaves angst, anger, action, love, forgiveness, and passion into a cohesive whole. The story does have a HEA ending after a pulse pounding rescue. If you looking for a story that has hot men, hotter sex, and enough action to satisfy, then this is a book for you.

As with all of the books in this series, the story and characters are well developed and the story has a good balance of action, super hot sex, and humor. As many others have noted, this series is best read in order to really appreaciate it. As threesomes go...these guys are a beautiful balance of power and love which makes their partnership believable and enjoyable to read.

Excellent book to use on your own

I did this Bible Study several years ago as a group. This time I purchased the book to go through at my pace and to truly grasp everything there is to learn. It was amazing. It is perfect for someone who wants to develop a discipline of a daily quiet time and Bible Study, but doesn't have hours to spend. As a mom with 2 preschoolers, my days are crazy and chaotic, but spending the time with the Lord in the morning using the book as my God has helped, even now that I have completed it. It has taught me how to get the meat out of God's Word myself. I highly recommend this Bible Study.

Benefits to studying God's Word

This study was very libererating. It helped me in a tremendous way. I was able to learn all the benefits to studying the Word and it helped me realize the importance to studying the Word. I would recomend it as I would recommend all of Beth Moore's studies. She is an incredible teacher with a lot of wisdom to offer anyone if they would just pick up her books and read.

About the Author
Ross Brawn is the most successful technical director in Formula One history, having led Benetton, Ferrari, Honda, and Mercedes to world championship glory, and worked with some of the greatest names in the sport, including Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton. After retiring at the end of 2013, he returned in January 2017 as F1's managing director, motor sports. Adam Parr is a businessman, investor, and lawyer whose career has taken him all over the world. Between 2006 and 2012 he was CEO and then chairman of the Williams Formula One team, where he was responsible for bringing hybrid technology to the team as well as turning round its fortunes.

First rate. Insightful.

First rate. Insightful. Much enjoyed the dialogue format, letting RB speak for himself. The Parr contribution was most interesting and informed and his subject lends itself well to F1. I wonder what RB's role will be in F1's future? It needs him. I was gripped. At last, that's how RB does what he does so sublimely. A book with high levels of aerodynamic and mechanical grip. A must read not just for fans but I can think of a number of managers who could glean some tips from RB's way of doing things.

This could have been a good book.

I'm enjoy motor sports and participate in autocross and track days. I follow F1 not compulsively but I enjoy good racing. The authors, as intimately involved as they were in the sport, should have been able to produce an exciting and interesting book. Had the first third of the book been as boring as the last two thirds they would not have gotten two stars. I finished about three quarters of the book and got fed up with the redundancy. I came away from the book feeling it was a slap-dash effort to capitalize on the author's names and not a serious exploration of the nature of F1.

Read Art of War instead, Much more Adam Parr in this than Ross Brawn

I bought this for Ross Brawn's insight. What little there was of it was fascinating. Putting Ross Brawn in large letters on the cover is misleading, most of this book is Adam Parr speaking about his philosophy of management.
Huge swaths of the book is made up of Adam Parr lecturing us on his PhD thesis. Another guy has read "Art of War" and has decided it is prophetic and applies to everything in life. Yes Sun Tzu is fascinating, but it is played out and beloved by managers everywhere. Read the original, it is fascinating. This, less so.
I was really hoping for insight from Ross Brawn on his time in F1, there is very little of this in this book.

A must have resource!

In two thorough yet easily accesible volumes, Patrick Barone lays out the factors involved in representing individuals with driving under the influence.

As a criminal defense lawyer for (well) over twenty years, I can tell you that driving under the influence cases can be more demanding than even most felonies.

An honest provider of legal services, I tell my incoming driving under the influence clients that they face a steeper challenge to obtaining victory than in most other cases. This is because either by blood or breath testing it is so easy for the police to secure incriminating evidence against the alleged violators. Also, more routinely now than ever before, police squad cars are equipped with video surveillance equipment to prove that the person in question was both driving and driving (usually) very poorly.

Accordingly, the cases where I have either prevailed at jury trial on these matters or more frequently on pre trial motion have been among the most hard won victories in my entire career. In this regard, I'm proud to say that in this area where the evidence has shown someone to be wrongfully accused, the system has recognized it and provided that individual with exoneration. This is not a product particularly of my skills but rather the inherent fairness of a process that has taken now over two centuries to refine...our American legal tradition.

That being said, this is an excellent resource and more than worth the nominal investment required to purchase it.

THEY ARE THE BEST FOR A FIRST READ!

Enid’s early works include the ‘Secret’ books about Peggy, Mike, Nora and Jack. They were the catalyst which encouraged me to start reading more than 50 years ago. Thank you, Enid.

The BBC, many public libraries, local authorities and alleged educational experts have been completely wrong about the worth of the Blyton works. I can remember having substantial difficulty obtaining the original versions of the books. Quite a few shops would not stock them then but they were wonderful stories for teenagers! The tales are great to read for their simplicity and straightforwardness.

When one did find copies of the book they were quite expensive all those years ago but great to own. I loved the physical appearance of the books as well which I treasured as a youngster with the way in which the books were produced then making them somehow much easier to read.

It’s a delight to read these stories of adventure again in middle age although recent editing has diminished some of the memories I have of the original editions and words used then (but I am now getting old).

Never mind… these books remain one of my best friends for life: they began my own reading adventure so do read these special adventures for yourselves.

Although Tennessee Williams provided the world theatre with nearly a dozen full-length plays that are still continually done, from the very beginning until the end of his life he also worked in the one-act form. "This Property Is Condemned" and "Twenty-seven Wagons Full of Cotton" are classics of the genre. The short plays collected in this volume were mostly discovered after his death and have been published posthumously. The first few selections would probably be more aptly classified as juvenilia and are really more vignettes than actual plays. And to tell the truth, we probably wouldn't be interested in them at all if their author were not Tennessee Williams. However, their author WAS Tennessee Williams and for that reason they command our attention. We can see the small seeds that later blossomed into more fully realized work. "These Are the Stairs You Got to Watch," set in a run-down movie theatre where unsavory acts are performed by audience members in the balcony brings to mind the short stories, "The Mysteries of the Joy Rio" and "Hard Candy." "Mr. Paradise" has echoes of "Lord Byron's Love Letter" and "Auto-Da-Fe." "The Palooka" and "Escape" show traces of NOT ABOUT NIGHTINGALES and "Why Do You Smoke So Much, Lily?" and "Summer at the Lake" foreshadow THE GLASS MENAGERIE. "The Pink Bedroom" and "The Fat Man's Wife" are more fully developed and could truly be called plays. These are both bittersweet comedies about adultery and could provide good material for actors looking for scenes to perform in acting classes. The other plays are somewhat more profound. "Thank You Kind Sprit" is a sad play about faith. It deals with an ancient Negress who conducts spiritualist meetings in New Orleans' French Quarter. Her session is interrupted by boorish people who denounce her as a phony and destroy her "temple," leaving her bereft of everything except for a crippled child who still believes in her. (This one would make a good television film, I think.) "The Municipal Abattoir" deals with people living in a totalitarian regime and has a lot in common with some of Caryl Churchill's work. "Adam and Eve on a Ferry," like another Williams short play, "I Rise in Flame Cried the Phoenix," deals with D.H. Lawrence. The best of the plays in this volume is "And Tell Sad Stories of the Death of Queens..." This play was one he worked on sporadically for decades and provides insight into the mind of Williams like none of the other one-acts. Set in The French Quarter, it deals with a lonely transvestite who has been jilted and now seeks new love from men who are unable and unwilling to give it to "her." But it has a layer of symbolism that is equal to SUDDENLY, LAST SUMMER.

None of these plays could be called an undiscovered masterpiece, but for Williams scholars, they provide a valuable source of insight into the major works. I also think these plays could be inspirational to beginning playwrights simply because they are so primitive. This is how Tennessee Williams started and look how much he developed. It shows the power of persistence and the value of continuing to write even if the early results are not all that great.

This volume includes a breezy introduction by actors Anne Jackson and Eli Wallach as well as some excellent notes by the editors, Nicholas Moschovakis and David Roessel.

Thirteen one-act plays by Tennessee Williams published for the first time

This is a collection of one-act plays by Tennessee Williams, most from the 1930s and 1940s, all appearing in print for the first time and now beginning to be performed. Many would fall in the category of "minor works," but if you enjoy Williams, you will want to read these as examples of his development as a young writer.

The early one-acts show his ability to write beautifully, to address the human dilemma, and to reproduce the voices he heard around him, believably and authentically ("Thank You, Kind Spirit"). There are typical Williams themes, such as the overbearing mother and frustrated children ("Why Do You Smoke So Much, Lily?" and "Summer at the Lake"). "These Are the Stairs You Got to Watch" dramatizes the same situation as the stories "The Mysteries of the Joy Rio" and "Hard Candy," although perhaps not as successfully. "Adam and Eve on a Ferry," about D. H. Lawrence, is a humorous companion piece to "I Rise in Flame, Cried the Phoenix." With their small numbers of characters and minimal staging requirements, these plays would be good for student drama groups and amateur and small theaters.

Although it is a short play, "The Municipal Abattoir" (1966) is very effective--and terrifying. The setting is an unspecified Latin American dictatorship, only slightly unreal. The theme is the destruction and murder of the individual, body and soul, by an oppressive government/state apparatus. This play belongs to a certain strain in Williams' work and resembles earlier and later stories and plays like "The Knightly Quest," "The Red Devil Battery Sign," and "The Chalky White Substance."

The last play in the collection, written between 1957 and 1962, "And Tell Sad Stories of the Deaths of Queens..." is excellent. The times have since caught up with Williams and audiences today, or at least some audiences, will be able to watch this play about a New Orleans drag queen and a rough merchant seaman without prejudice or discomfort and be able to see it as an exploration of character and situation. The relationship between the two main characters somewhat resembles that between Blanche and Stanley in "A Streetcar Named Desire."

The editors have provided an informative introduction and meticulous notes to the plays. They are conscientious about making clear all their reconstruction efforts, including a certain degree of interpretation, for texts that are not complete or exist in variants. While it may not be worth publishing everything that Tennessee Williams ever wrote, this volume shows that there is still material in the archives for consideration, and there may be more in store for us. Thanks to New Directions and the editors for their work in bringing out this volume and promoting the full rediscovery of this extraordinary writer.

Dr Zhivago a disaster-movie ?!?

well, well there are not to many filmbooks about disastermovies. They certainly had there best time in the seventies with films like "Airport", "Earthquake" oder "Towering Inferno" but also the following decades brought us films like "Volcano" or "Twister". The books describes the genre starting in the 1910's, with detailed analyses of the 70's films. I miss a filmographie with detailed informations - instead you'll find a list of disastermovies including "Batman", "Ben Hur" or even "Dr. Zhivago"... not very helpfull.... How different is this edition?

Has anyone compared the 2006 with the 2001 edition? I am wondering how substantive the changes are, especially since it costs $41 for the second edition, while the first edition is available for as low as $5. Obviously if a major re-write has resulted in significant changes throughout the text, then purchasing the newer edition is an important consideration. (According to the information he's added/altered material to reflect new natural disasters and in the wake of 9/11). But if the changes are minor, I'd like to know before I pay eight times as much for a version of this book. I'm using the text for research purposes and no libraries near me have it, nor is it available as an e-book.

While you can create a variety of penguin characters, there is one caveat: Penguins have to be cute! Even if you're drawing evil penguins, they have to be cute-evil. It's a rule. If you break it, you'll get hate mail from penguin lovers all over the world.
Here's an important hint that is sure to make them look cute: Penguins have almost no legs!�Their bodies are basically plopped down on their large flat feet. They're all tummy! This gives them a stubby, adorable look, even though they've got a long torso, because the torso is always abruptly cut off at the feet.

Big Book of Drawing Animals

I really like this book. Lately I've been drawing cartoon animals, so it's nice to have examples of some of the most popular animals that are drawn. It gives you a variety of different styles for drawing animals, & a lot of tips, suggestions, and what to avoid, when creating your own. My only qualm with this book, is that there are more similar examples of animals, than lots of different animals. For example: the first few animals (bears, cats, dogs, horses) have a lot of examples/pages, but when the book starts getting towards the end, animals like (cow, pig, rabbit) have maybe 2 examples, while the hippo, turtle & giraffe only got one, before the index page. It would've been nice for more animal types (i.e. alligators & crocodiles differences), & a few examples each for balance. All in all, it's a great book to have in your arsenal when tackling animal drawing, regardless.

I love this book it makes drawing these animals so easy, I have never seen a breakdown of drawing like this before it has really opened up my eyes its really amazing.. its like I was blind and now I can see. that is a song right.

Fun book of cute cartoon animals!

I'm new to drawing and just happened to see this book on Amazon and thought I'd give it a try. Although my attempts don't quite match the author's, I'm actually drawing some pretty cute animals by following the instructions in the book. I've recently just added a couple of more books to my cart from Christopher Hart, anxious to try other types of drawing. I would definitely give this a try if you're a beginner and want to make some really cute pictures in a very short time!

Fantastic resource! Immediately usable!

This is an amazing resource! I have been making boring excel charts for years. It has been frustrating because my employer would balk at purchasing different software and providing training. This book is going to step up my game. She shows you step by step how to use Excel to create some fantastic charts that you never knew you could make with Excel. Not only that, but she teaches you a different way to think about presenting data visually - one that non-data nerds can quickly get the point of the visualization. My co-workers and husband are bewildered why I would get so excited about charts:)
If you already are familiar with the chart function in Excel, there is very little learning curve. Even if you have no experience, Stephanie Evergreen takes you through it step-by-step.

Feeling like a data viz wiz

Effective Data Visualization is the perfect book for people who want to level up their data visualization skills beyond the defaults in Excel. I’ve learned so much from this book and it has fundamentally changed the way I think about visualizing data.

What I like about this book is that it doesn’t assume you have data visualization knowledge apart from basic familiarity with Excel. That’s actually a plus for this book, as the author Stephanie Evergreen shows you how to make most of these charts IN EXCEL. I'm not always the biggest fan of Excel but it really is the first place most people start with data viz. So if we’re all going to start there, at least this book shows you how to make your Excel charts not suck. Even better, Evergreen tells you how difficult a chart will be to create in Excel by including a helpful Excel ninja rating.

The other thing that’s great about this book is that charts are organized by the type of data you want to present. Categories include: a single number, comparisons, beating a benchmark, survey results, parts of a whole, correlations, qualitative data, and data over time. Evergreen bases her selection of charts on research showing which chart types are more effective for information retention. It’s a different way to think about charts, but one that I’m finding really useful.

The range of covered charts includes the usual suspects, from bar charts to scatter plots, but Evergreen also details visuals that I haven’t used before. The ones I plan to immediately add to my graphing repertoire are: icon arrays, slopegraphs, dot plots, back-to-back bar charts, and small multiples graphs.

Beyond choosing the right chart and knowing how to make it in Excel (which, of themselves, are incredibly useful skills), this book gave me a framework for creating charts that are easy to read and convey a clear message. For example, I now understand how to write an effective chart title, select good colors, reduce data overload, and eliminate chart junk. It’s reached the point where I can’t even look at my old graphs without wanting to tweak them.

There is one downside of this book and it’s that it was done with two-color printing. All of the charts are limited to shades of blue and grey. While this makes for a visually cohesive (and cheaper) book, the printed figures occasionally do not fully convey the author’s point – most often when showing a bad chart. This is annoying but it’s not enough to detract from the many good things about this book.

Excellent! At one shot we learn about how to represent data and a beautiful crash course in Excel charts. As someone needing to report on metrics and KPIs regularly this book helped me to do my job better and I could speed up on the go.
